A special League of Legends team has announced that they'll be creating an arcade-style 2D platformer with Ziggs as the main character.

In an announcement that came on Tuesday, a team of Riot Games employees taking part in a new Thunderdome challenge revealed that they were undertaking a 48-hour project where they'd construct a mini-game based on players' opinions. The two-day goal happens every so often, according to the team, and from the time that this endeavor was announced, the game should be finished quite soon, assuming they meet their deadline.

After giving players the chance to vote on which game mode they'd like to see as well as the specifics of it such as factions or skin lines that it would feature, the community voted on the two categories. Tons of users voted, and the winner was Arcade content – only by a margin of 98 votes compared to the Project theme – with 2D platformer winning by a fairly large vote count.

With the two main criteria decided on, the next step was for the Thunderdome team to decide specifics on their end. The end result was that it'd be based on Ziggs, a fitting subject with the release of Battle Boss Ziggs, and you can expect plenty of destruction and explosions along the 2D journey.

In an update that was posted last night, Thunderdome shared more details about the game mode, revealing that it'll rely on a couple of single-screen levels and longer dungeons, a simpler structure that'll allow them to focus more on the gameplay. A brief teaser that was revealed that showed their progress, features Ziggs hopping around several platforms while using his explosions to propel himself higher into the air, much like he does in League.

But every platformer has to have some climactic boss, and this Arcade mini-game is no different. There hasn't been a definite confirmation at this point, but in one of the initial updates that was presented, the team said that "Ziggs vs. Brand sounds sweet," so you can likely expect a battle of fire and explosions.

More updates are expected to come shortly on the mini-game, and players will hopefully have a chance to try it out themselves soon.
