SPIDERMAN WEBSHOOTERS

Just a few days ago, Spider-Man: Homecoming's Tom Holland took to Instagram to share a selfie which any superhero would be proud of. The young actor snapped a photo of himself on-set in full costume as he dangled high above his fellow cast and crew. The teenage vigilante's outfit featured prominently in the shot, and fans were excited to see Holland suiting up again after his appearance in Captain America: Civil War. And, now, some sharp-eyed fans have noticed that Holland's recent selfie is even showing off the character's new webshooters.

An iconic element of Spider-Man's costume, the character's webshooters have had a complicated cinematic history considering the hero's multiple reboots. In the first Spider-Man film trilogy, the hero found himself deviating from established comic canon when he was gifted organic webshooters. Essentially, rather than needing a device to spray webbing, Peter Parker could spew the sticky strings at will from his wrists after his radioactive encounter. The idea, which is famouly attributed to James Cameron, was carried over to Sam Raimi's film franchise. However, Sony's Amazing Spider-Man reboot decided to do away with the organic mess and introduce Parker's mechanical webshooters.

Fans were excited to see the devices on the big screen. Not only was the welcomed inclusion comic canon, but fans were able to better see Parker's massive intelligence as the high school student developed the shooters himself. And, now, it looks like Marvel Studios will reinstate the mechanical webshooters in Spider-Man's third reboot as they work alongside Sony to revamp the character.

While Holland's photo doesn't reveal much about Spider-Man's webshooters, the sleek apparatus can be seen wrapped tightly around his wrist. The device also appears to extend over Holland's palms so that Parker can spin webs whenever he needs. As for its functions, fans can only guess as to what Marvel and Sony will include in the shooters' final designs. While the webshooters have mostly remained the same throughout Spider-Man's iconic history, the devices have gotten upgrades to alert Parker when his webbing fluid is low or to even react to the hero's voice commands.

How do you guys feel? Are you happy to see the Peter Parker's webshooters making a comeback?
