In an official reveal via Entertainment Weekly, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Executive Producer Jed Whedon said that the ABC series will tie into Age of Ultron in some capacity.
“You should expect something,” he told EW. “The Avengers is the big tent that all the franchises play under. Obviously, we’re included in that.”
Marvel didn’t reveal exactly how their prime-time series would lead into Age of Ultron, but indicated that the tie-in won’t be as significant as the one between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In that crossover, S.H.I.E.L.D. dissolved during the events Winter Soldier, forever altering the direction of the Agent Coulson-led series.
“I don’t think any movie has the potential to impact us in the way that Captain America 2 did,” executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen told the publication. “But there will be connections.”
With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s midseason finale airing tonight, it’s possible that Marvel might have an Ultron teased planned. In fact, Phil Coulson’s Clark Gregg told Comicbook.com that tonight’s episode will change the series in a big way. We assumed that he referring to the presence of the Kree alien race, but today’s announcement certainly makes the speculation more intereting, doesn’t it?
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.
