On tonight’s episode of CBS’s Supergirl, the series took viewers on a long, swooping shot around Krypton — and gave us a better look at the doomed world than we’ve had yet on the show.

And it’s not quite like what we saw in Man of Steel…
…or the Silver Age/pre-Crisis version, either…
…although it’s not entirely alien to either of those.
The show hasn’t been shy about drawing from the Richard Donner mythology, with robes, crystal-based technology and the like, but the Alura hologram in Supergirl’s makeshift Fortress of Solitude is actually a little closer to Man of Steel. So…just what was Krypton like?
Take a look below.
My first observation is that, from the comics, it looks more like John Byrne’s The Man of Steel reboot than any other single version. We see a building that has what looks like an illuminated globe inside of a kind of claw-like roof. It reminds me quite a bit of the birthing matrix Kal-El was sent to Earth in in that version of the mythology. And while there’s a lot of high-tech, shiny metal stuff, there’s also that kind of “used universe” look. Check out this image of a shining spire with what looks like just a bunch of metal and wires dangling below:
At any rate, check out the gallery below. This is far and away the most we’ve seen of the country that’s outside of fairly plain rooms and crystal tech. Let us know if you’ve got any thoughts on what anything here might be.
