Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Reportedly Getting Super Bowl TV Spot

Baseball is America's pastime, but football is America's passion.

Over 100 million people will tune in to watch Super Bowl LI, which takes place on February 5, 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston and features the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. What make its so special is that many of those viewers don't care about the outcome of the game; they are watching the event to see the commercials—which FOX is charging $5-$5.5 million for a 30-second ad. Since those television spots are so expensive, company's try to put their best foot forward with funny, attention-grabbing commercials. For film studios, they use that precious time to showcase their potential blockbusters—providing lots of cool, never-before-seen footage.

At last year's Super Bowl, Disney kicked off the marketing campaign for Marvel's Captain America: Civil War with an action-packed television spot and released a third trailer for Jon Favreau's live-action Jungle Book movie. According to Deadline, the Mouse House will has purchased ad space for Super Bowl LI and will use them to promote "the next installments of Guardians Of The Galaxy and Pirates of the Caribbean."

Furthermore, Deadline believes 20th Century Fox could advertise Logan or Alien: Covenant, and Paramount might advertise Transformers: The Last Knight or Baywatch.

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theaters May 4, 2018.
