More and more findings support the theory that one of the big announcements slated for BlizzCon this year could pertain to a new expansion announcement for the popular MMORPG World of Warcraft.

The franchise has seen many expansions through the years, including the most recent that was met with a lot of praise from long term fans. Legion introduced new areas, a new class, and a refreshing feel of what many loved in previous expansions. When Blizzard stated that the final update for Legion would mark its last, it seems that the company is already prepared to drop what’s next in the World of Warcraft.

A few players noticed some interesting things when tracking the patch number for the beta servers – the mention of Patch 8.0 showed up within the information for a short time before Blizzard quickly noticed and took it down. But this is the internet, and what’s it’s up – it’s up for good by some means. One redditor managed to capture a screenshot to show proof the newly added designation:

So why is a simple number making such ripples in the community? The way Blizzard, and many other companies, work with patch designations is that any number appearing prior to the decimal indicates a huge content haul – usually expansions. Legion was assigned a 7 before the decimal, meaning that 8 has to be something new entirely. There have been more than a few rumblings concerning additional content, including datamined images depicting a return of the Old Gods in a big way that flowed seamlessly with the events of Legion.

With BlizzCon 2017 prepping the host their annual celebration next month, it is possible that they could be amping up for a big reveal. The popular IP Overwatch has seen constant updates of comics, shorts, new maps, and more – it might be World of Warcraft‘s time to shine once more.
