There's one word out there that can send the Dragon Ball fandom into a tizzy, and it's Broly.
The name may be small but it has massive implications in the anime world. Given Dragon Ball's unprecedented popularity, any controversial character from the series is bound to become famous, and Broly is proof of such a concept. The hulking Saiyan is one of Goku's most notorious villains, but there is still a lot you may not know about the guy.
Created in 1993, Dragon Ball Z: Broly - The Legendary Super Saiyan first birthed Broly to be the ultimate villain. The film introduced the baddie as a quiet man who had his inner rage unleashed against Goku. No one quite knows why Broly hates the other Saiyan, but he really doesn't need a reason - not when he can become a Legendary Super Saiyan.
There isn't much personality-wise that makes Broly great; His reputation relies on his fabled Super Saiyan powers. Broly is one of the very rare Saiyans who can turn into the Legendary Super Saiyan. The scary form levels up Broly to a point where even Goku and Vegeta are outclassed. Over the years, Broly has appeared throughout Dragon Ball Z films and video games thanks to this power. And, even today, fans cannot seem to let the character go.
If you are one of the fans who love Broly, then you surely know a lot about his film escapades. Still, there are some fun facts which you can pocket to brush up your Dragon Ball trivia. You can check out some of Broly's more interesting tidbits below:
Broly’s Legendary Super Saiyan Form Is Stupidly Painful
Going Super Saiyan isn't the easiest thing in the world, but it also is not the worst. However, it does sound like transforming into the Legendary Super Saiyan is insanely painful. The form requires Broly to amass a large amount of ki, but the transformation doesn't just alter Broly's looks. No, it completely bursts a new person out of his skin. Before Broly goes Legendary, his cheeks, eyes, and chest shake before they get ripped open. The Legendary Super Saiyan comes out from within Broly, so it's no wonder the form looks so deadly.prevnext
Goku Has Recognized Broly Outside Of The Films
Dragon Ball has plenty of films to its name, but only a select few are considered canon by fans. None of Broly's outings are on the list, so fans might be surprised to hear that Goku has recognized Broly outside of his films - in video games, that is. In Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Goku recognized Broly as someone from the series' main timeline. Broly is just as nasty in the game as he is in the movies, so it is a good thing that the franchise's games are not considered canon either.prevnext
Broly Is Hell’s Shiest Occupant
By the end of Dragon Ball Z: Bio-Broly, fans learn an important fact about the villain after he's defeated by Goten and Trunks. The Saiyan has been sent to Hell, but you'd have a hard time figuring that out. The man must be shy; How else can you explain his refusal to show up in Hell during other Dragon Ball Z films? The baddie has no part in Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, but he does make a few escape attempts later on in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai.prevnext
Where Is Broly’s Tail?
Universe 6 Saiyans may have evolved and left their monkey tails behind, but Universe 7 never had a chance to advance so far. Goku eventually got rid of his tail, but many Saiyans like Bardock and Nappa clung to their tails before being offed. According to Akira Toriyama's character designs for Broly, the character does have a tail, but fans never see his adult self with the appendage. It could be that Broly is wearing the tail as a belt, but fans are even skeptical about that.prevnext
Broly. Broccoli. What’s The Difference?
If you thought Broly was immune to Akira Toriyama's naming puns, then you better think again. The Dragon Ball franchise is rife with naming conventions that baffle the most eccentric minds. Bulma's entire family is named after undergarments, and all Saiyans derive their names from vegetables. Goku lucked out thanks to his protagonist status, but others did not. Vegeta comes straight from vegetable, Bardock relies on burdock, and Broly was picked from broccoli.prev
