Not a lot is known about Barry Allen just yet in the upcoming season of Arrow–except that he’s a bit of a fanboy, admiring greatly what Green Arrow has done as a hooded vigilante. We also know he comes to Starling City to look for leads regarding the cold case of his mother’s murder–something he hasn’t been able to resolve in his years with the Central City Police Department. That all sounds very…down to earth, and that’s not on accident. In a new interview released today, showrunner Andrew Kreisberg told one of KSiteTV’s sister sites that Barry is the everyman that Arrow hasn’t really had so far, considering the fact that Oliver Queen and his friends are all part of the same high society as the white collar criminals he hunted for most of the show’s first season.”If you look at the Justice League, you have Superman and Aquaman and Wonder Woman. You have all these gods. And then you’ve got Barry Allen, who’s just a guy,” Kreisberg told Flash TV News. “That’s, I think, why the character appeals so much to Greg and to Geoff and to me, and it’s also why he’s a really good fit to the world of Arrow, because while we’re obviously introducing some fantastical concepts to things, we want to still keep the show as grounded and realistic as possible. So I think that the events that happen to The Flash, and what’s going on in Central City… I think some people will be like ‘that’s not happening. There must be an explanation for it.’ Barry’s a good guy, and he’s seen that it’s possible to put on a mask and change the world.”Keeping the show grounded and realistic, in spite of super powers being introduced, is certainly a challenge–and it’s one that Kreisberg goes into in more depth at the link above. Check it out there. Arrow debuts October 9 on The CW.
