Twitter is in an uproar because President Barack Obama has misspoken and apparently confused his Star Wars with his Star Trek. In a press conference earlier today, President Obama said, “”I know that this has been some of the conventional wisdom that’s been floating around Washington that somehow, even though most people agree that I’m being reasonable, that most people agree I’m presenting a fair deal, the fact that they don’t take it means that I should somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what’s right.”Of course, there is no such thing as a “Jedi mind meld” in the Star Wars movies or Star Trek TV show or movies. President Obama likely either meant”Jedi mind trick” which comes from Star Wars or “Vulcan mind meld” which comes from Star Trek. Because President Obama has often sold himself as a geek president well-versed in the world of comic books and science fiction, it has sparked quite a few jokes on Twitter.Depressed Darth Vader tweeted, “Obama just confused Star Trek and Star Wars by saying Jedi Mind Meld. I think it’s time to impeach.” Matthew Callan tweeted, “By referring to a ‘Jedi mind meld,’ Obama has opened himself up to charges of being a fake geek girl.”However, some have rushed to the President’s defense, Garance Franke-Ruta tweeted, “Not a mixed reference: There is a Jedi Mind Meld, apparently: https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_meld“.Of course, the terminology of Jedi meld has only been used in the Star Wars novels, but maybe it’s something that J.J. Abrams plans to incorporate in Star Wars Episode 7. Maybe, President Obama has already gotten a look at the upcoming Star Wars scripts and just dropped the ultimate Star Wars Episode 7 spoiler.
