Spider-Man’s New Guardians of the Galaxy are Way Stronger Than The MCU’s Originals

Spider-Man has moved from swinging around the streets of New York City to taking down intergalactic tyrants in his latest status quo change. Not only that, but the Friendly Galaxy Web-Slinger has assembled his own crew to help him bring some justice to a universe that is falling apart around them. After taking down the evil alien scientist Xanto and freeing all of the prisoners he planned to experiment on, The Amazing Spider-Man #13 showed the new team in action. It proved that this ragtag team is even stronger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s depiction of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

After a brutal loss against the villainous Hellgate, Spider-Man is on a quest to become stronger by any means necessary. His first step was taking down Xanto on his own, with the aid of an inert Technarch transformed into one of his most powerful suits ever. Alongside Peter stand his other teammates in Xanto, controlled by Suicide Squad-style explosive pants, a warrior named Raelith of the Wretched, the pilot Nial, a dog-like Klyntar symbiote named Symbie, and the actual Guardians of the Galaxy member Rocket Raccoon. This team just proved they’re way stronger than the MCU Guardians, and here’s the proof.

A Team Built to Span the Galaxy

Let’s break this down one at a time, comparing each member of Spider-Man’s squad to the original MCU Guardians. Let’s be generous and say the two Rockets are equal, although the comic version has far more feats to show his intelligence and battle prowess. Drax and Gamora are the physical heavy-hitters of the movie team, and Raelith and Xanto easily outpace them. Raelith tore through heavy machinery like tanks with little effort, with only a kick, which neither of them could do. Xato is also clearly around the same level of strength as she is, shown through his past battles with the X-Men and how he was able to shrug off artillery fire like it was nothing in this issue.

Nial didn’t contribute to the fight, instead coordinating everyone and staying on the ship, implying that his skills lie in technology. Still, he won’t be adding to his team’s power level. Groot is the strongest and most versatile of the Guardians, but he might be at least challenged by Symbie. We don’t know the symbiote’s full capabilities yet, but other Kylntar are capable of enhancing their hosts to be absolute powerhouses, as Venom and his many descendants can attest to.

The final members are, of course, the two Peters. Star-Lord has the potential to be near unstoppable if he fused with Ego, but given that he willingly gave up that power, it won’t be counted. Without that, the movie Star-Lord is practically just a regular person with element guns. Spider-Man, meanwhile, is not only strong enough to go toe-to-toe with characters like Iron Man and Wolverine, but is enhanced by his new Technarch suit. It makes him stronger, faster, and gives him controllable tendrils, which he demonstrated in a fight that definitively proves which team is more powerful.

Battle With Black-Dwarf

When Spider-Man’s team was attempting to make landfall on Gaileia 3, they not only had to smash through hordes of guards, but also Black Dwarf, a member of Thanos’s Black Order. When the team saw him, everyone but Spider-Man immediately surrendered. Black Dwarf is the physically strongest of Thanos’s elite soldiers, with unbreakable skin and strength enough to fight Ronan, Super-Skrull, and Annihilus at the same time. Spider-Man, however, didn’t hesitate to rush him.

Peter not only avoided all of Black Dwarf’s blows but managed to take him down almost instantly. With only a little assistance from Symbie as a distraction, Spider-Man used his techo-organic tendrils and Raelith’s charged spear to shock Black Dwarf into unconsciousness. Everyone assumed they would lose with no contest, but Spider-Man barely even had to try. Considering how powerful the comic version of Black Dwarf is, I’m not even sure all of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy working together could win. Even if they could, they would definitely have a harder time than Spider-Man.

This battle proves without a doubt that Spider-Man’s team is the stronger between them and the MCU’s original Guardians of the Galaxy. Spider-Man’s quest is to become stronger than he’s ever been before, and based on how powerful he’s shown that he already is, this team could very easily become one of Marvel’s cosmic powerhouses.
