Since its introduction as part of DC Entertainment’s consumer products line, DC Comics Bombshells has become one of the company’s more diverse and surprisingly successful lines, with variant comic book covers, toys, statues, clothing and more.
DC Comics Bombshells reimagines DC superheroines in the style of ’50s pinup girl looks, and while it might not sound like it, it has become a home for some badass and sometimes feminist interpretations of familiar characters.
DC Bombshells is a reality where female superheroes guard the homefront during World War II. It was originally created as a series of statuette. It later sparked two runs of themed variant covers, first in August 2014 and then again in October 2015. It was in October that DC Comics Bombshells launched as its own comic book series.
The series runs as a digital comic first in short installments, before those installments are collected into a monthly comic book in print.
The Bombshells were also added to DC Universe Online in the DLC The Bombshell Paradox, although the storyline was slightly modified to suit the medium. The title, probably, was a nod to the animated film The Flashpoint Paradox, based on DC’s Flashpoint comics.
