It took Arrow four seasons to get to magic, and Marvel Studios about a dozen movies before Doctor Strange comes along in November.

The DC Extended Universe apparently feels magic is an important enough component that they're going all-in on it with the third film.

It's a major part of the story – something that's only really just been teased a little bit at the edges in the trailers we've seen so far – but it came about fairly organically, according to producers. Rather than setting out to make a movie that explores the magical side of the DC Universe, they say the introduction of Enchantress, a longtime member of the Suicide Squad in the comics, necessitated the move.

"There's magic in this movie," Andy Horwitz, a producer on the film, said simply during a set visit Comicbook.com attended last summer. "There's things that are happening that are unexplainable. Some of them may be attributed to magic. Some of them may be attributed to other things. Maybe they're scientific, but, yes, it's not just someone coming into the city and laying waste. Something has happened and the Squad is sent into Midway City to try and fix a problem, but that problem is something that you learn more and more about as the movie unfolds."

"Once we decided that the Enchantress should be a part of the movie, part and parcel of having that character meant you're embracing what comes along with her and it just sort of naturally happened," added producer Richard Suckle. "Magic is a part of the movie because, of course, the Enchantress is in it. [Director David Ayer] completely embraced it and was something that we felt hadn't been done. At least I don't think it's been done. It hasn't been done in a DC movie. I can't say I know every single Marvel film, but it was something that really just naturally evolved and as soon as David said 'I want her to be a part of the movie,' the qualities and the attributes and the abilities that she has comes along with her."

During a scene press on site watched being shot, reference was made to the "witch, as in brooms and black cats," and reference of "going to war with a witch and a giant magic monster." That takes place late in Act 1 of the film, so it's safe to say it'll be around in a big way.
