Marvel has teamed up with Aftershock, a renowned multimedia and game development studio, to produce an ambitious new action-RPG set in the Marvel universe. With Marvel Heroes Omega continuing to perform on PC and on consoles, this Fox-owned studio will be crafting its own unique take on the super-hero multiplayer RPG, one that it thinks will exceed fans’ expectations. According to the press release, this new game will see players interacting with all of their favorite Marvel heroes and villains, and battling against players from all over the world in surprising ways.
“Aftershock is creating something special and we are thrilled to finally announce this news,” said Jay Ong, Senior Vice President of Games and Innovation for Marvel Entertainment. “The game will be the full package: an exciting storyline, epic moments with Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains, and incredible visuals that truly bring our characters to life. It’s shaping up to be one of our biggest and boldest projects in our mobile portfolio, and we know it will exceed our fans’ expectations.”

“The Aftershock Los Angeles team, led by Amir Rahimi, is developing an explosive action mobile game set in the Marvel Universe that will feature an innovative game design with stunning graphics,” said Aaron Loeb, President of Studios for FoxNext Games. “To team up with Marvel on our first game at FoxNext Games is a dream partnership.”
Not much else is known about this new project, but Aftershock will be taking the lead on this one, acting as both developer and publisher. The studio must be pretty big, as it’s working on multiple other projects right now as well, including a massively multiplayer mobile strategy game based on Avatar (the James Cameron Avatar, not the animated series, sadly).
