There was plenty of news revolving around Super Mario Odyssey with today's Nintendo Direct, including a new Nintendo Switch bundle coming in October, as well as the fact that – gasp! – Mario has nipples. But we know what you guys want to see – fresh new gameplay footage from the game.

In fact, there was seven minutes worth presented during today's Nintendo Direct special, which you can see above. It first goes over the story of the game, with Bowser threatening to marry Peach and wreak havoc across the land as a result. So Mario must set out to stop him, with the help of his hat friend Cappy, whose sister Tiara has been kidnapped by Bowser. So it seems they both have a reason to go after him.

Cappy can be used for a number of purposes over the course of the game, including bouncing off him as a projectile, as well as the "capture" ability which lets Mario take control of enemies, animals and objects within the environment – something that will come in handy.

Mario can explore a number of worlds in the game, including the Tostarena (Sand Kingdom), Mount Volbono in the Lunch Kingdom, Steam Gardens in the Wooden Kingdom, and a number of others, which are featured in the footage above. The worlds are vast and require a great deal of exploration, where you can find a number of hidden goodies, along with the trademark Mario coins and other power-ups.

The Shiveria Snow Kingdom has also been revealed for the first time, along with the Bubblaine world in the Seaside Kingdom, where Mario can actually swim around and, yep, coast around in a swimsuit if he feels like doing so.

The gameplay certainly has us excited to check out the game, and it looks like you can cover a lot of ground in a cool aerial vehicle. By collecting Moons, you can actually power your ship and make your way to the next kingdom, so the more you collect, the more progress you make within the game.
