There have been a number of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars animated projects in the past. After seeing the lovely pencils of artist Peng Ven, you can't help but imagine what his characters would look like in the realm of animation.
Even in 2D though, Ven's art more than impresses. Ven, also known as Chikinrise, frequently uses a blend of sharp angular features and rounded motion in the hair and clothing to form a look that seems destined for a cartoon. His coloring is stellar as well, with delightful washes of red, orange, and gold in his Iron Man, or the varied hues of green represented in his Poison Ivy. His portraits might not feature much in the name of backdrops, but he still adds a pop of color in some related shape to help separate the character from all the empty space.
If lone portraits aren't your thing, Ven does have a few other pieces that feature multiple characters in a fully realized world, like his Black Cat and Black Suit Spider-Man team up.
If you want a bit more insight into his sketching process, Ven also includes a few Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens pieces that show the finished product beside the original pencils, starring Kylo Ren and Rey.
