After making his Marvel Cinematic Debut in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, shown having a drink in the destroyed remains of The Collector’s lair during a post-credits scene, Howard the Duck (voiced once again by Seth Green) appears twice in the sequel.
About halfway into the first act, right after Ego revealed to Peter Quill that he’s his biological father, we see the Ravagers letting off steam at a brothel — drinking, hanging out with sex-bots, and catching the falling snow in their mouths — on the planet known as Contraxia. Then, we see Howard sitting at a table, with drink in hand, chatting up a woman seated across from him. He says to her, “You’re out of luck until you go duck.” Smooth. Very smooth.
Howard’s second appearance comes at the end of the film. No, he doesn’t appear in any of the five post-credits scenes. He is one of several random Marvel characters — such as Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster — that pops up during actual credits.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Howard The Duck
“As a kid my favorite comic book character wasn’t Batman or the Hulk – it was actually Howard the Duck,” Jamesย Gunn explained in October. “Steve Gerber’s strange blend of funny animal comics, adult humor, and science fiction was heaven to me – so much so that I had a big Howard poster on my wall for years. So, of course, I couldn’t be prouder than having brought him, at least in some small way, into the modern MCU, and helping to shine the spotlight on him. Including this awesome Dorbz.”

Bonus! Baby Groot Expressions Look Development
Shortly after the sequel was released, conceptual artist Luca Nemolato released two adorable pieces of Baby Groot concept art he created for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and included in its “The Art of the Movie” book. You can view those two images by clicking here. And now, Nemolato has released concept art of Baby Groot expressing a trio of emotions: sadness, (mild?) happiness, and anger.
