The episode opens by flashing back to when Daisy and Simmons first entered the Framework. Time passes in the real world. With 24 hours of power left in the Zephyr, the Agents left behind debate their options regarded whether they touch down and contact General Talbot. The device that is keeping Daisy and Simmons in the Framework is draining their power. Rather than turning it off, they decide to turn off the cloaking on the Zephyr.

Within the Framework, Hydra agents storm the broadcast station and take it back. Trip and Simmons return to headquarters. Simmons pulls Daisy aside and explains Aida’s plan. Daisy tells Simmons about Radcliffe’s backdoor. They argue about whether or not they have time to try to rescue Fitz.

Mack is leaving with Hope. Daisy stops them and tells Mack that they need him for a mission.

Coulson tries to tell May about the Framework, but she’s skeptical.

Fitz interrogates Radcliffe about what he told Daisy. He offers Radcliffe a chance to be reborn through Project Looking Glass. Radcliffe accepts.

Simmons appeals to May to help Fitz. May mentions Fitz’s father. Simmons realizes that’s what changed for Fitz. She goes to Alistair’s home and puts him at gunpoint.

Daisy lays out the mission to Trip. Trip is curious about the oddball team Daisy is putting together. He inquires about whether this has anything to do with the other world. Trip then tells her that Simmons left the base.

Simmons, still with a gun on Alistair, tries to convince him that Fitz is in trouble. She orders him to call Fitz and bring him to the apartment. He makes the call, but he warns Fitz instead and then attacks Simmons. Simmons shoots Alistair.

Daisy asks May and Coulson about Simmons and May tells Daisy where Simmons went.

Fitz and Hydra forces arrive at Alistair’s home and find him dead. Fitz becomes intent on killing Simmons.

In the real world, the Superior’s forces move in on the Zephyr.

In the Framework, Daisy’s team readies to leave for the backdoor. Simmons arrives and tells Daisy about what happened with Alistair.

Madame Hydra is informed of what happened with Fitz. She orders that the mission is terminated and that they return to the Triskelion.

Fitz receives the order but rejects it. A steel mill has been built over the back door, Madame Hydra planning ahead to make things more difficult for them to escape.

Daisy’s squad disembarks. She says goodbye to Trip and encourages him to take up the mantle of the Patriot and carry on Mace’s legacy.

Daisy’s team searches for the backdoor in the steel mill. They find the coordinates, but there’s a melting pot built over the back door, leaving them no way out.

When Madame Hydra hears about what is happening with Fitz, she orders the Project Looking Glass project to begin. The machine begins building her body.

Daisy’s team begins bickering over what to believe about this other world. After arguing for a while, Daisy comes up with the idea of quaking the pit. Fitz’s forces arrive and a firefight breaks out. Daisy quakes the pit and the backdoor appears. Coulson walks towards it but is shot down by Hydra. May moves forward with cover from Mack. Coulson falls back through the door. The Framework ripples around them as he passes through.

Coulson wakes in the real world. May wakes up next. He grabs a scalpel and moves towards Aida.

In the Framework, Fitz points a gun at Simmons. She pleads with him. He shoots her in the leg. Fitz is ready to kill Simmons, but Radcliffe stops him and takes the gun. He apologizes for letting the Darkhold corrupt him and for everything that’s happened and then throws Fitz through the back door, which was his true reason for helping Fitz.

Simmons dive through next and wakes up on the Zephyr just as the Superior’s forces are attacking.

In the Framework, even though he knows the Framework isn’t real, he still hesitates. He’s worried about Hope. Daisy tells him that Hope isn’t alive in the real world and that it was something Aida changed in the Framework. He decides he’s going to stay. Daisy begs him, but he’s determined.

Daisy wakes up on the Zephyr. Mack remains behind. Fitz is in shock over what he has done, over Mace’s death. Aida’s body is completed and she awakes in it. Aida greets Fitz. She’s happy. May is ready to shoot her, but Fitz is in the way. Aida wraps her arms around Fitz and they both disappear.

Mack returns to base and finds Hope sleeping on Trip’s lap. She wakes up and is reunited with Mack. He tries to explain what happened to the others as being like Wizard of Oz.
