Marvel Cinematic Universe fans got further acquainted with Nebula (Karen Gillan) earlier this summer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. And according to Gillan, next year's epic Avengers: Infinity War will address Nebula's tragic back-story even more - as well as her possible road to redemption.
"Without giving away any spoilers," Gillan explained at a recent appearance at Florida SuperCon, "we're definitely going to continue the arc for Nebula and find out more about her past. And actually, we're going to find out that it's even worse than we know."
In Vol. 2, Nebula's origins - particularly with regards to her adoptive family - were explored quite a bit. It was revealed that Thanos (Josh Brolin) would make Nebula and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) battle as children, and would turn Nebula further into a cyborg with every battle she lost. While she reconciled with Gamora by the end of Vol. 2, she remained hell-bent on getting revenge on her adoptive father.
So how will Nebula handle that past trauma, once she's finally face to face with Thanos in Infinity War? According to Gillan, fans can expect a satisfying culmination of that side of Nebula's story.
"We're going to see her confront all of it." Gillan revealed. "It's going to be like an emotional explosion."
Seeing as much is still unknown about Infinity War, fans will just have to wait and see if that 'emotional explosion' will follow comic precedent, or go into entirely new territory.
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment - the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
