Internet Reacts To X-Men Film Announcements
20th Century FOX filled out its 2018 movie schedule earlier this morning, with the announcement of [...]
Second Time's The Charm
X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, aka "If You Thought We Fucked This Up LAST Time!"
— Bob Chipman (@the_moviebob) April 22, 2017
The Dark Phoenix Saga was not well handled in X3: The Last Stand and some are quite wary that some of the same mistakes will be made in the latest film X-Men: Dark Phoenix. That goes for Twitter user Bob Chipman (@the_mobiebob) who, well, it's better if he says it.
Hopefully, the second time is the charm because at this rate they aren't likely to get a third without a complete reboot. Though to be fair, maybe that's the best route anyway.
prevnextWhat's The Point
They aren't gonna do the black queen part or any of the underlying metaphors of the dark Phoenix saga so there's no point.
— Ryan Whorton (@RealRyanWhorton) April 22, 2017
It does seem odd for FOX to greenlight a Dark Phoenix movie without doing much in the way of developing the character aside from one movie. She doesn't even display the Phoenix power until later in the film. That's why Twitter user Ryan Whorton (@RealRyanWhorton) is selling this latest project.
It could've used one more film before taking on such a big premise, but hey, maybe they'll surprise everyone and pull it off.
prevnextBatman V Superman
X-Men going Dark Phoenix the movie after Jean Grey was introduced is the most Batman v Superman move Fox could make.
— David Harper (@slicedfriedgold) April 22, 2017
DC and Warner Bros. got endless flack for cramming so much into their second film, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and the final product showed why that's a bad idea. You can't get proper character development when you jump the gun, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix has potential according to Twitter user David Harper (@slicedfriedgold) to repeat that mistake.
If the Phoenix isn't established correctly, then the Dark Phoenix loses all meaning. After just one film introducing the character of Jean Grey, nonetheless the phoenix force, the odds aren't in the project's favor.

Some of the reactions have been negative, but not every reaction is, including this one from Twitter user Marcia (@marvelrubs). The prospect of having a year with films like Avengers: Infinity War, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and Black Panther is almost too much for him.
In fact, it's almost as if he's gone to heaven, and there's no better way to illustrate that than with Tom from Tom and Jerry.
prevnextSophie Turner
@SophieT was awesome in X-Men Apocalypse!! Can't wait to see her in X-Men: Dark Phoenix!!
— ☣Your Main Dude☣ (@xShadowGaming7) April 22, 2017
While X-Men: Apocalypse didn't pull in as much as previous films in the franchise in terms of box office, it did introduce a new set of characters that were quite well received, including a new Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Jean Grey played by Sophie Turner.
That last part is more than reason enough for fans of the character to get excited, as she will be taking the lead in the next film. Twitter user Your Main Dude (@xShadowGaming7) is one who can't wait to see her rock the role one more time.

Hey, that dude looks familiar...hmmm. ComicBook.com's Brandon Davis can't wait for 2018, which not only includes the new X-Men films but also others like Ant-Man and the Wasp, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Aquaman.
Only an Asgardian could translate his feelings into words, and leave it to Marvel's Thor to be up for the job. All you can say is "YES!"

@nerdypoc Idgaf about dark phoenix saga. Tired of the xmovies focusing on the same five damn characters. DP2 & new mutants are where it's ag
— #kamalakorp (@agentfitz777) April 22, 2017
X-Men: Phoenix Saga is getting some mixed fanfare, but others like Twitter user #Kamalakorp (@agentfitz777) are more than excited for the newer blood in FOX's X-Men cinematic universe.
Deadpool 2 will see the debut of Cable and Domino, and possibly setup an X-Force movie, while New Mutants will see a whole team of fresh recruits. The future does indeed look bright.

@Ricardo_Sodreh Ta uma bagunça mesmo... queria saber onde eles vão encaixar New Mutants tbm. Espero que New Mutants seja no futuro de Logan com a X-23.
— Toni Batista (@antbatista) April 22, 2017
With a full slate of movies primed for 2018, some are worried one of them will get overshadowed. That goes for Twitter user @Toni Batista (@antbatista), who doesn't even know where New Mutants fits into their plans.
He is hopeful for the future, and it seems many are ready for a fresh start to FOX's X-Men universe and see New Mutants as a way to make that happen.
prevnextHellfire Club
Ahh there is nothing to add I AM HAPPY no more SOFT MAGNETO!! YES YES YES!! PS if the Hellfire club is not in DarkPhoenix Saga >>
— MAGNETO (@Sorrowfulsavior) April 22, 2017
While Jean Grey is the main character in the Dark Phoenix Saga, there are plenty of other supporting character involved to push the storyline forward. She also goes through multiple phases before ultimately becoming Dark Phoenix, and a bit part of all that is the Hellfire Club.
For Twitter user Magneto (@sorrowfulsavior) it's going to be a bad day at the multiplex if they aren't involved in some way. There are probably many who would agree.

I don't know how 2 feel about Dark Phoenix. It's the greatest story ever but I just really want 2 see the X-Kids grow. @Kinberg @XMenMovies
— Capitán Fantástico (@EwanElessar) April 22, 2017
Part of what makes the Phoenix saga so special is that people had become attached to the character of Jean Grey over time. Seeing the young X-Men mature and grow into the heroes they would eventually become is a big deal, and it's hard to do that when you introduce them in one film and then tear it all apart in the next.
That's what worries Twitter user Capitan Fantastico (@EwanElessar), and it's a fear that many similarly share. Hopefully, they'll be able to pull it off.
