Ever since the Iron Fist debuted on Netflix, fans have been clamoring to see Danny Rand in a costume similar to what the character dons in the Marvel Comics. They might get their wish in Iron Fist Season Two.
Spoilers for The Defenders below.
After returning from K’un-Lun, Rand did not wear the typical Iron Fist costume complete with flowing sash, head-covering bandana, and the classic high collar. While some argued that such a costume wouldn't work well for the Netflix series, others wanted to see something similar to the tracksuit he wears in the newer comics.
In the closing moments of the new Netflix series, fans get to see the Iron Fist looking over New York City from a rooftop, awaiting trouble, wearing what appears to be a green-and-yelow tracksuit similar to the new Marvel Comics stories.
After Daredevil tells Iron Fist to “protect my city” before his supposed demise at Midland Circle, Rand is conflicted with guilt and duty. He tells Colleen Wing that New York City is beginning to feel like home and that he learned in K’un-Lun to treat a tragedy as an opportunity to grow.
The character’s final scene makes it seem like he’s taking up the mantle he believes Murdock left behind while invoking the comic storyline where Iron Fist pretended to be Daredevil after Murdock went to prison. But Rand isn’t donning the red armor of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in the Netflix series.
It looks like he’s taking on the classic green-and-yellow tracksuit, minus the trademark mask.
Some fans might not feel it’s enough or that it’s not enough like the comic books. But these are baby steps in Iron Fist’s journey toward becoming the full-fledged superhero New York City needs him to be.
We should expect to see that journey continue in Iron Fist Season Two.0comments
