It seems like 2017 is shaping up to be the biggest year ever for fans of Marvel’s Runaways. Now only is a Runaways television series set to debut on Hulu, but Marvel Comics is teasing a new Runaways comic book series with character art by Kris Anka.

Runaways follows a group of six teenagers in the Marvel universe โ€“ Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Molly Hayes, Chase Stein, Alex Wilder, and Gertrude Yorkes – who discover that their parents are secretly members of a supervillain cabal called The Pride. After deciding they’re no longer safe in their own homes, the kids go on the run. In the midst of hiding from their elders, the teens learn about themselves and become a family of their own.

Runaways was created in 2003 by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona and was originally intended as a miniseries. Runaways proved popular enough for Marvel to turn it into a monthly ongoing series. The series continued through multiple relaunches and creative teams until it was canceled in 2009 and fans have been begging for a new ongoing series ever since.

Fans are still awaiting an official announcement for the series and for the reveal of who the creative team will be but, in the meantime, here are all of the character teasers we’ve gotten so far.

Nico Minoru

Nico is a “goth girl” who was born to supervillain parents with arcane powers. She inherited the Staff of One, a mystical artifact capable of casting practically any spell, but only once. She took over as leader of the Runaways after original leader Alex Wilder was revealed to be a traitor. She’s notorious for kissing the wrong people and for complicated romances with her teammates.

Nico has been one of the more active Runaways since the team’s last ongoing series. She was one of the teenagers captured and taken forced to play Arcade’s twisted game in Avengers Arena. She infiltrated the Masters of Evil in Avengers Underground. Later, she joined the She-Hulk’s A-Force team.

Chase Stein

Chase Stein is the oldest member of the Runaways, which perhaps shows in how much he changes and matures over the course of the series.

Chase is a “jock” who was born to two mad scientist type villains. Chase may not be a master of scientificย theory, but he is good with technology and is often responsible for keeping the Runaways’ vehicle, the Leapfrog, in working order. He also used mechanized, flame-shooting gauntlets dubbed “Fistigons” until they were destroyed during a battle.

Chase fell in love with his teammate, Gertrude Yorkes. The two were in a relationship when she was killed by Geoffrey Wilder, Alex Wilder’s father who had been summoned from the past into the present day. When Gert died, she passed her psychic bond with Old Lace, a Deinonychus dinosaur, onto Chase.

Old Lace

Old lace is aย Deinonychus from prehistory who was brought to the modern day by the time-travelling parents of Gertrude Yorkes, a member of the Runaways.

Gert’s parents intended to pass the dinosaur onto Gert when she was old enough. However, when the Runaways discovered the truth about their parents being the Pride, they broke into Gert’s home and discovered the dinosaur hidden in the wall.

Luckily for them, Gert’s parents had already implanted the dinosaur with a psychic link to the dinosaur, who would protect Gert and obey her commands. When the Runaways decided to choose codenames, Gert chose “Arsenic” and named her dinosaur “Old Lace” after the filmย Arsenic and Old Lace.

Gert was killed by Geoffrey Wilder. Since then, Old Lace has been bonded to Chase Stein. The final issues ofย Runawaysย involved a plot where Old Lace was believed dead. The series was canceled before the story could be resolved. Years later, inย Avengers Academy, it was finally revealed that Old Lace was alive, but had been transported into another dimension.

Karolina Dean

Karolina Dean was the daughter of Hollywood starlets who were also secretly aliens from the Majesdanian empire. Majesdanians glow with colorful light and can manipulate that light energy to fly or as a weapon.

Karolina’s parents kept her true heritage from her by giving her a bracelet that neutralized her powers and telling her that it was a medical bracelet she could never take off.

During her time with the Runaways, Karolina came out as gay. She had an unrequited crush on Nico that eventually resolved when Karolina came out and admitted her feelings.

The issue was further taken off the table when a Skrullย named Xavin came to earth seeking Karolina’s hand in marriage. Karolina was hesitant at first, particularly since Xavin presented as male, but Xavin then explained that his Skrull shapeshifting ability meant his gender was fluid and took on a female form.

When Karolina learned that her marriage to Xavin could bring peace to an area of the galaxy that had long been a war she agreed to go into outer space with him. When they eventually returned, Karolina and Xavin had fallen in love and were happily married.

When Majesdanian authorities arrive to arrest Karolina, Xavin shapeshifts into her form to take her place. His fate is unknown.

Molly Hayes

Molly Hayes was the youngest member of the Runaways and had a hard time accepting the truth about her parents at first, though she now accepts the Runaways as her real family.

Molly’s parents were evil mutants with psychic gifts. Her parents were surprised to find that Molly also had mutant gifts, though her powers were purely physical. Molly possesses immense strength but becomes sleepy after using it.

Since Molly is a mutant, the X-Men have tried to recruit to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters on multiple occasions. These attempts usually end up in a fight, and eventually, the X-Men accepted that they’d never be able to convince Molly to leave the Runaways.
