Marvel and ABC will make their third foray into television when The Inhumans debuts later this September. And though the Marvel series will premiere on IMAX screens across the country, the show will have more in common with fellow small screen offerings than it will with its MCU counterparts.

Though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took Inhumans off the docket of movie releases and the project got retooled for Marvel Television, a lot of the lore has already been fleshed out on the flagship program, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
And while Marvel’s The Inhumans will not be a direct spinoff of the action/espionage program, it will be affected by some of the events that have taken place according to showrunner Scott Buck.
“Things that have happened on S.H.I.E.L.D. will potentially affect our show as well,” Buck said to Entertainment Weekly.
In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., main character Daisy Johnson found out she was an Inhuman after being exposed to a Terigen crystal creating a mist that triggered her transformation. After that she learned more about her heritage from her mother, the leader of a small society of Inhumans who was previously experimented on by Hydra.

Though their community was destroyed after a confrontation with SHIELD, Inhumans were scattered all over the globe. And new Inhumans were birthing randomly after a supply of Terigen crystals leaked into the ocean, were eaten by fish, and turned into fish oil supplements distributed all over the world (seriously).
These events have caused different pockets of Inhumans to sprout up, and Daisy’s own mother intimated that other societies existed alongside their own.
The Inhumans, however, will focus on the Royal Family of Black Bolt, Medusa, Crystal, Maximus, Karnak, and Gorgon. Some will be forced to flee their kingdom on the moon and will end up in Hawaii, though it’s yet to be revealed what the impetus of that move will be.
Will the Royal Family have knowledge of these pockets of Inhuman societies across the world? And if they do, why wouldn’t they help protect their people?
It’s an interesting question and we hope to learn the answer when Marvel’s The Inhumans debuts on September 1 in IMAX theaters ahead of its premiere on ABC.
