3 Deep-Cut 2000s Animated Shows That Are Worth Watching From Beginning to End

Animated revivals are coming in fast and furious these days, as various universes are making comebacks even with decades passing after their original finales. While shows like King of the Hill, Futurama, and The Amazing World of Gumball have all returned, there are some series that might never be lucky enough to return to the screen. Luckily, now feels like the right time to highlight three “deep-cut” shows that are worth watching from the start to their original end. While these shows might never return, they are very much worth your time if you are looking to revisit the animation of the aughts.

3.) Chowder

Cartoon Network has seen its fair share of big animated originals go on to receive serious glory, with the likes of Adventure Time, Regular Show, and The Powerpuff Girls being only three examples. Unfortunately, not every original from the cable network’s history will hit the same heights, which is especially tragic for Chowder. First arriving on Cartoon Network in 2007, the series garnered three seasons before coming to a close while focusing on its feline culinary student. Created by animator C.H. Greenblatt, Chowder’s world was unlike any other, and across its three-season run, the series blended humor with astonishing animation that often has to be seen to be believed. Throughout the entirety of the series, Chowder works well at not just delivering hilarity, but also creating unique characters that bounce off one another to make one of Cartoon Network’s best animated originals. Greenblatt has said in the past that he’d love to revisit this universe with a brand new prequel series, though Warner Bros originally shot down the idea, leaving it unlikely that we’ll see the new Chowder show arrive anytime soon.

2.) Spider-Man: The New Animated Series

It’s fair to say that X-Men ’97 has been a massive success as Marvel’s Merry Mutants have hit a new stride with its second season. Thanks to Xavier’s finest pulling in a lot of attention, many fans have been wondering if Fox’s Spider-Man: The Animated Series might be given a revival as well. What many might not know is that in 2003, a thirteen-episode animated series introduced the world to a surprising new take on the wallcrawler. Airing on MTV in the U.S., the CG animated series followed Peter Parker during his time at college, with How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris playing the part of your friendly neighborhood wallcrawler. The animated show takes place in a world quite like Sam Raimi’s original film trilogy, but brought in many villains that hadn’t made their way to the silver screen at that time. Villains like the Lizard, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Silver Sable, and more all rounded out the roster, with even Michael Clarke Duncan returning to his role as the Kingpin from the Daredevil live-action film. If you’re a fan of Spider-Man, this long-lost MTV series might be well worth your time.

1.) Clerks: The Animated Series

Bringing back the likes of Dante, Randall, Jay, and Silent Bob from their original appearance in the live-action Clerks film, the hilarious six-episode series is a quick watch while also being gut-bustingly hilarious. On top of having many of the actors reprise their roles from the 1994 black-and-white comedy, the show even added in the villainous Leonardo Leonardo, played by Alec Baldwin. Even with only half a dozen installments to its name, you can still easily pick up Clerks: The Animated Series and find it relevant to today’s events. Kevin Smith was in charge of these animated adventures, landing before the film would receive two sequels that further explored the lives of Dante and Randall. There are so many moments from the series that have gained internet immortality thanks to the surge of memes sweeping the world wide web, proving that even with only six episodes to its name, Clerks still has staying power to this day.
