Three new character posters were released by Disney Tuesday morning for Doctor Strange as part of the news explosiong that came with the lift of the set visit embargo. These first character posters show Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and Benedict Wong as the Mystic Arts Master known simply as Wong.

The posters are focused around a scene from the trailers for the film that show the world bending over itself. Whether this is meant to signify Strange reaching into or communing with other dimensions, as the film starts to explore the concept of a multiverse in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time, or if it’s some visual effect for another spell, we don’t yet know. Similar locations can be seen behind each character, thought arranged differently for each. If further character posters are (likely) released, they should follow the same theme.
The world of Doctor Strange promises to present magic in full force to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. While there has been mention (and even use) of it in the Thor movies and by Loki in The Avengers, it hasn’t been used in a significant way by regular humans, or offered any in-depth analysis or explanation. The advantage of having a trained scientist like Dr. Strange being the one learning about magic is apparent there. If nothing else, it means we’re going to get some mind-bending and drastic visual effects out of it, like the bending of worlds and cities around our characters.
