New photos from the Avengers 4 set show Brie Larson sporting an actual costume, but it doesn’t necessarily look like the costume fans have come to know in the comics, at least in recent years. The suit is sporting a green and silver color scheme, and since the film takes place in the past that is likely to do with her origin.
In the comics, Carol Danvers has plenty of ties to the Kree, a militaristic people that are stronger than humans and are made up of mostly warriors. One of those warriors was Mar-Vell, who was also known as Captain Marvel. Danvers was kidnapped by an enemy of Mar-Vell, and during the rescue attempt Danvers ended up half-Kree herself.
Danvers gets her powers after coming into contact with the Psyche-Magnitron, a device that altered her genetic structure. She was now half-Kree and half human, and that caused some issues as her body attempted to cope with its new abilities. Eventually, she was able to control them and would don the name Ms. Marvel (after Mar-Vell) shortly after.
Now, the Kree race is known for wearing green and white uniforms, though Mar-Vell would adopt the red and blue look that most known him for later. In the film, Mar-Vell will be played by Jude Law, and it remains to be seen how much of his (and Danvers) origin will be kept from the comics, though it is expected to receive some tweaks.
As seen in the pictures, it seems Danvers first costume is more in line with traditional Kree uniforms, and thanks to earlier concept art, we know that she will eventually get a costume reflecting her more current suit in the comics.
