The iconic 1998 film Practical Magic has returned to streaming as of October 1st, both on HBO Max as well Tubi. The film stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as Gillian and Sally Owns, sisters descended from a long line of witches. Theyโre raised by their aunts after the deaths of their parents due to a family curse. However, when Gillianโs abusive boyfriend dies unexpectedly, the sisters find themselves having to learn serious magic and accidentally create some larger issues for themselves in the process. The film received mixed reviews when it first opened, but has become an enduring audience favorite, reaching cult classic status. The film has become a must-watch for many each fall, something that is now easier than ever with the film available on two platforms.
Production on Practical Magic 2 Recently Wrapped

While Practical Magic streaming on both HBO Max and Tubi is good news for fans, things are getting even more magical. A sequel was announced last June with much of the original cast returning. Theyโre joined by Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Solly McLeod, Joey King, and Xolo Maridueรฑa.ย Production on the film kicked off this July and last month, Kidman shared on social media that the film had finished filming. Practical Magic 2 is currently set for a September 18, 2026, release.
The sequel is set to pick up the story of the Owens sisters from the first film and will take its inspiration from Alice Hoffmanโs 2021 novel, The Book of Magic, the direct sequel to The Practical Magic novel the first film is based on. The filmโs producer Denise Di Novi has indicated that the new sequel will be very faithful to the source material, which is good news for fans who have come to deeply love the original bookโs characters, characters that were brought to life by Bullock and Kidman on screen so well that fans asked for a sequel for more than 20 years.
Practical Magic is now streaming on both HBO Max and Tubi.
