From Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 to David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, reboots have been all the rage in Hollywood in recent years. Filmmakers have been revisiting beloved movies and franchises from the past to bring them back to the big screen with new storylines and characters, but they don’t always land with fans. A 2010 movie that rebooted one of the most beloved ‘80s films just may be the most divisive, but it’s absolutely worth watching now that it’s streaming on Hulu.

Paul Feig’s 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, started streaming on Hulu on September 26th. The movie marked the third entry into the Ghostbusters franchise and offered a twist on the 1984 original movie it rebooted by replacing the original all-male team with a female-led quartet of paranormal investigators portrayed by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. Similar to the original film, the group starts a ghost-catching business in New York City following a paranormal encounter. The movie, which also starred Chris Hemsworth, features appearances from original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts.
Why You Should Watch Ghostbusters
Feig’s Ghostbusters movie, which grossed $229 million worldwide against a $144 million production budget, is the most divisive film in the franchise. With a 74% “Certified Fresh” Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, the film is the second-highest-rated movie in the franchise, beating out even the original movie’s sequel, Ghostbusters II. But the movie’s 49% audience rating places it dead last among viewers – but that shouldn’t keep you from watching it now that Ghostbusters is available to stream on Hulu.
The movie’s all-star comedic cast not only offers a breath of fresh air to the franchise with infectious chemistry but also a laugh-out-loud good time with plenty of jokes and sharp humor. And while the many cameos from the original cast may at times feel a bit heavy-handed, it’s fun to see stars like Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson return to the franchise, albeit in different roles from their original characters. Ghostbusters also benefits from special effects that help bring the ghosts to life. The movie will be familiar to fans of the original film while offering just enough newness to keep it fresh and entertaining.
New Halloween Season Additions on Hulu
Ghostbusters is a perfect movie to stream during the Halloween season, but it’s far from the only Halloween-perfect movie now available to watch on Hulu. The streamer’s September 2025 lineup introduced tons of horror and horror-adjacent titles that subscribers won’t want to miss this month. The largest number of those additions arrived on September 1st, when titles like Evil Dead Rise, Jennifer’s Body, The Nun II, and Trap started streaming on Hulu.
Other movies have since joined the spooky lineup, too. Hulu subscribers can now also stream The Rental, Swallow (2019), Would You Rather?, and The Shallows.
