While the focus at the moment is on Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, there is another much anticipated Alien entry on the backburner.

Actress Sigourney Weaver, who played the iconic Ripley in the original films, recently made comments about an Aliens sequel, which would actually take place after the second movie in the franchise, therefore cutting out some of the later films. Neill Blomkamp is set to direct the film, and Weaver was asked (via EW) about the status of the film.

"Well, we have a great script. Fox asked us to delay so Ridley Scott could shoot his [second] Prometheus movie. That was too bad because we would have already done it by now," she says. "It's a great story and it's satisfying to me to give this woman an ending,"

She continued, highlighting the differences between this new movie and the films that have come before.

"The script itself has so much in it that's so original, but also really satisfies the, I would say, the primal needs of the aliens," Weaver says. "It's a tribute to all of the great work that the other directors have done, in a way, but goes in a completely new direction. I hope we'll do it."

Unfortunately for fans, because of the delay, both Weaver and Blomkamp are busy on other projects for awhile. Weaver is starring in the Avatar films and Blomkamp is starting work on his new film The Gone World. Still, their ultimate goal is to get it completed.

"But you never know in this crazy business. In any case, [the Aliens sequel] there and waiting for us. He and I both have these other commitments that are finally upon us, and so we've got to switch gears and concentrate on that. But it will be worth the wait when we finally get to it."
