As streaming services gear up for Halloween season โ the height of horror movie watching every year โ some of the most chilling titles around are starting to pop up in new places. This includes new horror movies from 2025, some of which are hitting streaming for the very first time. On Wednesday, HBO Max announced that the year’s most brutal horror film is going to be making its streaming debut on the platform in October, and fans are going to need to buckle up for the difficult journey ahead.

A24’s Bring Her Back, from the directors of Talk to Me, is finally making its way to streaming next month. HBO Max confirmed that the traumatic indie film will be making its streaming premiere on Friday, October 3rd. The film will then make its linear debut on the HBO network one day later, on Saturday, October 4th at 8pm ET. That HBO premiere will actually be the second half of a Philippou Brothers double feature, following an airing of Talk to Me at 6:20 pm ET.
If you’re not familiar, Bring Her Back tells the story of two step-siblings who, after the death of their abusive father, are sent to live with a foster parent who harbors dark secrets of her own. I won’t spoil the big plot reveal here, but trust me when I say Bring Her Back heads in an even darker direction than you’d expect. The themes of loss and grief already make this a tough watch, but the brutality of the film’s events make it even more challenging.
Despite its difficult nature, however, Bring Her Back has been met with a ton of critical acclaim. Several reviews, including ComicBook’s own, call it one of the best horror features of the year. All of this to say, your mileage will certainly vary, just know what you’re in for before you begin.
Bring Her Back stars Billy Barratt as Andy, the older of the two siblings at the center of the story, while Sora Wong plays his younger sister, Piper. Sally Hawkins, the Oscar-nominated star of Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water, plays their foster mother.
New Horror on HBO Max This Halloween
HBO Max hasn’t yet announced its full slate of arrivals for the month of October, but the announcement about the Bring Her Back debut likely means that the newsletter is coming soon. That said, the streaming service got started with its Halloween horror additions at the start of September.
This month has seen a few popular horror titles make their way to HBO Max, including 1990’s Oscar-winning Stephen King adaption Misery.
Other horror and horror-adjacent titles recently added to HBO Max include Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II, The Cabin in the Woods, Prometheus, Se7en, and Jonah Hex.
