There’s One Comic Book Movie That’s Perfect for Halloween Season (And it Just Hit Paramount+)

While the two months leading up to Halloween are often considered the best time to watch horror movies, there are a ton of options from other genres that are also perfect fits for Spooky Season. If you aren’t the biggest fan of horror movies, there’s actually a comic book adaptation that fits more into the action genre but contains more than enough spooky/supernatural elements to make it the ideal watch for September and October.

If you haven’t guessed yet, we’re talking about 1994’s cult classic The Crow, starring the late Brandon Lee. Alex Proyas’ adaptation of James O’Barr’s comic series has been steadily growing its fan base for more than three decades, blending the action of comic blockbusters with the colors and chills of the Halloween season. Now, starting this month, The Crow has gotten easier to stream, thanks to Paramount+.

The Crow was added back to the Paramount+ lineup on September 1st, returning it to the streaming service that it most often calls home.

The Crow Is Perfect for Halloween

While The Crow isn’t necessarily a horror movie, there are a ton of things that make it a great viewing option for the Halloween season. First and foremost, the film straight up takes place on Halloween night. On top of that, the gothic settings and grungy ’90s costuming makes it feel like a legitimate Halloween experience.

Then there’s the look of the titular antihero himself. Eric Draven’s resurrected alter ego is as Halloween as you can get, with his painted face and black leather. The actual crow that hangs around him is a nice touch as well.

Every ounce of The Crow, from the production design to the music, feels like strolling down an empty road on a chilly October night. There are honestly very few films more Halloween than this one.

New Halloween Season Additions on Paramount+

The Crow is one of many horror and horror-adjacent titles that were added to the Paramount+ streaming lineup on September 1st, among them a trio of Marvel titles that fit in right next to Proyas’ actioner as Halloween/comic crossovers. All three of the original live-action Blade films are now on Paramount+, providing a spooky one-two punch with The Crow.

Other horror additions on September 1st include Cloverfield, World War Z, Scary Movie, Scream 4, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sleepy Hollow, The Faculty, The Ring, and the first eight Friday the 13th films.

The full list of new horror additions can be found here, with Paramount+ outpacing rivals like Netflix, HBO Max, and Hulu. That said, there’s no telling exactly how many of these horror films will last through the end of October, so you may want to watch them sooner rather than later.
