Tombstone’s 4K Steelbook Is Stunning (And Pre-Orders Are Already Selling Out Everywhere)

Check out a hands-on preview of Disney’s Tombstone 4K Steelbook (and pre-order your copy here).

It looks like we’ve got the first real hot-ticket Steelbook release of 2025 on our hands. Last month, Disney announced that it would be releasing Tombstone on 4K Ultra HD for the very first time on April 22nd. With a long-awaited restoration, the 4K edition of this beloved 1993 Western was always going to be a big hit for movie fans and physical media collectors, but nobody expected the upcoming Steelbook to be in such high demand that retailers are selling out more than two weeks ahead of its release.

At the time of writing this article, we’re 15 days away from the Tombstone 4K Steelbook release date, and pre-orders are already in short supply. Amazon is currently out of stock (though more copies could be added at any time) and Walmart pre-orders are running low. So if you want to get your hands on Tombstone‘s stunning 4K Steelbook, you’ll need to be quick on the draw. You can pre-order a copy from Walmart here.

Again, Amazon is currently sold out, but it’s worth checking back on the listing every so often, because the online retailer could always add to their stock. You can find Amazon’s listing here.

ComicBook was able to access an advance copy of the Tombstone Steelbook, thanks to the folks over at Disney, so we’ve got a hands-on preview of the release here for you to check out. The photos in this article are in-hand images of Tombstone‘s 4K Steelbook, so you’re able to see exactly what you’re getting (rather than relying solely on PR images). Keep in mind, this isn’t a review of the Tombstone 4K itself โ€” that will come later. This is just a detailed look at the Steelbook.

The cast graces the cover of Tombstone with some artwork that features Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer most prominently. Kilmer’s role as Doc Holliday remains not only the most memorable of the entire film, but also stands as one of the best in the legendary actor’s entire career.

In all honesty, a likely reason for the increased demand in Tombstone‘s 4K release is Kilmer’s recent passing. The beloved actor passed away on April 2nd, after an incredibly lengthy battle with cancer. Getting the chance to see his best work in 4K for the first time surely pushed Tombstone high on the wish lists of a ton of fans.

The back cover of the Tombstone Steelbook features an image of the Deputy U.S. Marshal badge worn by the characters in the film, while a sprawling shot of all four stars (Russell, Kilmer, Bill Paxton, Sam Elliott) is displayed across the inside cover of the case.

In addition to the 4K restoration itself, the Tombstone 4K Steelbook also comes with a few special features (all of which have been previously released). There are three “Making Of” on the include Blu-ray disc, as well as director George P. Cosmatos’ original storyboards of the O.K. Corral sequence.

The Tombstone Steelbook is already one of the best and most in-demand studio 4K releases of 2025 so far. Disney set the bar high with this one; let’s just hope the quality of the restoration itself matches the stunning exterior.
