Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s J. August Richards: I'd Like to See a Female Superhero Join

During an interview that will run later today, recurring Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. guest star J. August Richards told ComicBook.com that he'd like to see a female superhero make the jump to the small screen.

This comes amid reports, of course, that a Supergirl series is being shopped by Warner Bros. Television, Marvel's Agent Carter and The CW's iZombie are set for midseason bows at their respective networks.

"Ooh, what a wide-open question," Richards said when asked what Marvel heroes he might like to see join the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., where he still is not yet confirmed to appear in the second season.

He added, "I think the show needs a female hero -- a female superhero. And who that could be, I'll leave it wide open but it would be so nice to see a strong, female character on there kicking some ass like I do."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has more gender parity than probably any mainstream comics property at present, and they have already cast Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless as a badass S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent and Adrienne Palicki as Mockingbird, but she (like Black Widow, who appeared in Marvel's The Avengers) doesn't have powers. 

Avengers: Age of Ultron will introduce Scarlet Witch (who made a brief appearance at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier), the first super-powered female human in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We have seen aliens and Asgardians, from Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora to Thor's Lady Sif, who appeared on an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. last season.
