An off-duty Army captain in North Carolina performed some impressive heroics when he rescued multiple people from the scene of a flaming car crash.

The soldier, Army Captain Steve Voglezon, used a fire extinguisher to break multiple car windows and rescue William and Kathleen Thompson, both in their sixties, after another vehicle crossed the median and caused a collision.

The scene was caught on tape and can been in the Good Morning America report below:

ABC recapped the story again during the closing segment of World New Tonight:

"I grabbed one of the fire extinguishers. I smashed out the back window and the driver-side window," Voglezon tells GMA. "From there, I grabbed Mr. Thompson. I took him to a safe distance."

After rescuing the first passenger, Voglezon immediately went back for the second.

"If I had not been a soldier, I wouldn't know what to do," he said. "The Army has helped a lot."

At the time, Voglezon happened to be wearing a t-shirt featuring a fictional hero, Captain America. Just like Cap, Voglezon seems the picture of humility, and attributed the rescue to a team effort that included other bystanders.

"I was just at the right place at the right time," he said. "We all bonded together to help save people's lives."

All three people involved in the crash are currently hospitalized.
