Man Of Steel shave

Late night talk show host Conan O'Brien has seen the Man Of Steel trailer, and he isn't happy. In a new video, O'Brien professes, "I love the Superman franchise. It's my favorite of all the superhero franchises. And I've been waiting my whole life for them to finally come up with the best of the Superman movies, and I had high hopes for this one, really high hopes." Despite loving the fact that on the planet Krypton they have Australian accents, Conan O'Brien took issue with another component of the Man Of Steel trailer. O'Brien says, "In one sequence, I noticed that Clark Kent has a beard, and he's lifting something really heavy. He's grown a beard. He's like on an oil rig, and he grew a beard. Ok, fine he grew a beard. Later in the same trailer, he's clean shaven. Ok, that's a super beard. That beard is super, just like Superman, it's a super beard. How did he shave the beard off?" Due to the lack of explanation of how Superman shaved off his super beard, Conan O'Brien claims, "I'm not going to see the movie. I'm not going to see any more superhero movies. I may never see a movie again." Of course, Gillette is running a marketing promotion asking the same question. Because we feel bad about Conan O'Brien missing out on his favorite superhero franchise, we wanted to point out to him that the Superman comic books have already provided a perfectly rational explanation for how Superman shaves. In John Byrne's Man Of Steel comic from the eighties, Clark Kent uses a piece of metal from his rocket ship to reflect back his heat vision to shave his face. We've included the panel below for Conan O'Brien's reference.
