Guardians of the Galaxy 

passed $200 million yesterday and now looks to be on pace to be the summer's biggest hit.

Variety crunched some of the numbers, noting that the movie (currently sitting on a $204 million haul) earned $7 million on Friday en route for a $23 million weekend. that will give them around $221 million in its first 17 days of release.

It's expected to take #2 at the box office this week, behind last week's #1 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is likely to pass $100 million later today.

It took just 15 days to pass $200 million, and a sequel has already been slated for July 28, 2017.

Updated: Transformers: Age of Extinction will likely remain the top-grossing film of the summer (possibly the year) worldwide; it's already crossed the $1 billion mark globally -- although the vast majority of that money comes from the international market. It's already run its course for the most part in the U.S., and isn't likely to make more than $500,000 on any given weekend before it's pulled from theaters at this point. Domestically, it currently sits at #3 for the year, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Lego Movie ahead of it.
