The newest episode of Pokemon Generations is live. The Pokemon Company posted Episode 3 of the new anime short series, titled "The Challenger", to YouTube earlier today.

"The Challenger" stars Blue, Professor Oak's grandson and Red's rival in the original Pokemon Red and Blue games. The five minute episode shows Blue's battles against Kanto's Elite 4, which occurred off-screen in the original games. Agatha, Lorelei, Bruno, and Lance all make appearances in the episode, along with their signature Pokemon Gengar, Lapras, Machamp, and Dragonite.

In a nifty Easter Egg, Blue's team of Pokemon is identical to his team in the Pokemon games. Blue uses Pidgeot, Alakazam, and Blastoise, all of which he used in his final battle against Red. The episode also ends with Blue waiting for Red to arrive in the final room of the Indigo Plateau, which resembles the Champion's room in Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen.

Pokemon Generations is part of Pokemon's 20th anniversary celebration and exists in a seperate anime universe from the traditional Pokemon television show. The shorts are deliberately closer in feel to the actual Pokemon games, with less liberties taken with Pokemon battles and locations within the series. According to the Pokemon Company, each episode of Pokemon Generations will feature hidden moments that tie into the plots of various Pokemon games.

Pokemon Generations began last week with two episodes, one of which featuring Red and his Pikachu and the other featuring a failed raid on Giovanni's Pokemon gym in Viridian City. The first two episodes can be found here.

New episodes will be posted each Friday from now through the end of the year.
