The actress was widely reported to have joined the show, prompting headlines and trending articles to pop up all over the Internet. However, the actress’ rep recently told Entertainment Weekly the rumors were not true.
Wading through the recent rumors, it seems that Bild was the first site to speak about Angela’s appearance on Game of Thrones. However, the site has a history of publishing sensational, gossip-driven headlines. Despite that reputation, Bild’s article quickly went viral and prompted fans everywhere to rally behind the actress’ casting.
Of course, the rumor wasn’t all that farfetched. News broke earlier this month that Game of Thrones had cast Jim Broadbent in an undisclosed yet significant role. The award-winning actor is known for his work on projects like Harry Potter, Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Longford. With such an acclaimed actor already on-board for Season 7, fans weren’t surprised to hear that Angela was being scouted for a guest role on Game of Thrones.
After all, Angela has a career which spans over seven decades. The actress was born in London to a middle-class family but has pursued most of her career in America. Her first big roles came through Gaslight and The Picture of Dorian Gray before Disney cast her in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. She then received worldwide attention for her work on Murder, She Wrote and Beauty and the Beast.
With Season 7 currently in production, fans are keeping a keen eye out for any updates on shooting. HBO is being quiet as usual about the series’ future, especially since Season 6 left many fans stunned by its explosive finale. The second-to-last season began production in Northern Ireland and will contain seven episodes. The shortened season is already stirring up major publicity as actors such as Maisie Williams have commented on its storyline and stressed “nothing will prepare” fans for what’s coming.
Game of Thrones will return to HBO for it’s penultimate season at some point next summer.
