In response to the most deadly mass shooting in Orlando this past weekend, The Walt Disney Company has donated $1 million to help victims and their families. On Tuesday, Orlando mayor Buddy Dyer announced that Disney made the donation to OneOrlando, an organization dedicated to raising funds to aid victims of the shooting. Not only did Disney already make a $1 million donation, but also plans to match the donation of Disney employees dollar for dollar according to the Disney Parks Blog.

Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, commented, "We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act." Chapek continued, "With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones."

The shooting took place at gay nightclub, Pulse, in Orlando on Sunday morning and reports confirm 49 people were killed including the gunman Omar Mateen. More than 50 were also injured in the shooting, while six still remain in intensive care. The tragic event was the worst terror attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.

Orlando is home to Walt Disney World, and all of the donations will go to the families of those affected by the shooting. Disney has set up five different locations at various resorts so that people may donate blood to the victims, and is providing rooms for the families of the victims to stay in.

Editorial Director for the Disney parks, Thomas Smith, concluded, "Our hearts are with everyone impacted by this horrific event."
