The first trailer for the Christmas-releasing R-Rated comedy Why Him? was released by Fox Thursday morning. The Red Band (see R-Rated, full of vulgar language) trailer shows off the ridiculous comedy as James Franco plays a more-than-a-little eccentric billionaire named Laird trying to win over his girlfriend's father, Ned (Bryan Cranston), before asking her to marry him.
Zoey Deutch, Megan Mullally, and Keegan-Michael Key also star in the ensemble comedy, set for a Christmas Day 2016 release from 20th Century Fox. Why Him? is directed by John Hamburg, off a script he wrote with Ian Helfer (Wet Hot American Summer) and story by Helfer, Hamburg, and Jonah Hill. Shawn Levy, Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, and Dan Levine produced. The official description follows:
Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned's panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
