The Power Rangers made their grand return to television, but unfortunately, it didn't debut with flying colors.
While the ratings were disappointing, they weren't altogether unexpected. Power Rangers Ninja Steel returned with another drop in the rankings, and it unearths a disturbing trend (via Power Rangers NOW). The mid-season premiere "Rocking and Rolling" brought in 950,000 viewers, coming in below 1 million for the first time since Saban bought back the franchise from Disney.
For context, Power Rangers Samurai was much closer to 4 million viewers in 2011, so the fact that Ninja Steel has sunk under 1 million is concerning, though not altogether unexpected. This season of Power Rangers has suffered from issues that have become commonplace. Heavy leaks, limited promotion, and a momentum-stopping summer hiatus are all things Power Rangers fans are familiar with and contribute to a drifting audience.
The thing is these issues are fixable, but it remains to be seen if Saban will address them for next year's Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. Power Rangers Ninja Steel is back on Nickelodeon, and you can submit your ranking for the show here.
