Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Teaser Trailer to Debut on Good Morning America
An announcement video coupled with a tweet from the official Star Wars account that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would debut it's long-awaited first teaser trailer on Thursday, April 7. The trailer will debut on Good Morning America, on ABC, a network also owned by Lucasfilm's parent company Disney.
No timeframe for the trailer's debut was given, with fans merely encouraged to tune in to the broadcast.
The announcement video for the teaser trailer did include the first real piece of footage for the film, showing a new class of all-black clad Stormtrooper, which rumors have classified as "Death Troopers," an elite squad that's set out to do only one thing for the Empire (it's in the name).
Rogue One has been kept a largely guarded secret after an ILM-produced tease of a TIE fighter and some frantic pilot audio debuted last April at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this past Tuesday, the Lucasfilm marketing machine can officially turn the full might of the Empire toward December 2016 and Rogue One's debut.
The film is unique for Lucasfilm and Disney, as it's the first of the "Star Wars Story" movies, which tell standalone tales that aren't within the standard "Episode" structure of their live action franchise. It also doesn't have thirty years of anticipation surrounding it like The Force Awakens did being a direct sequel to the original trilogy, and it's certain that while the events of the film are just before those of the first Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, you probably won't ever hear anyone officially label it a "prequel."
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story finished principal photography in February, 2016, and is set for a December 16, 2016 release.0comments
