With reboots and revivals not losing any steam in popular culture in recent years, fans of Sex and the City were thrilled to learn earlier this month that the popular series would be getting a continuation as a ten-episode limited series on HBO Max entitled And Just Like That. While there are still quite a few details about the series that remain unknown, original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are all reprising their characters for the story that will find them in the present day -- and according to Parker, that means COVID-19 will factor into the series and from more than just a production standpoint.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Parker spoke a bit about the various questions she has regarding where Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte are now and what their lives look like personally, professionally, and in terms of their friendships and brought up that the pandemic will factor because it's part of the city they live in -- New York.

"[COVID-19 will] obviously be part of the storyline because that's the city [these characters] live in," Parker said. "And how has that changed relationships once friends disappear? I have great faith that the writers are going to examine it all."

Parker also teased that the writers room for And Just Like That is made up entirely of women, save for showrunner Michael Patrick King.

"It's incredibly diverse in a really exciting way," Parker said before adding that the new writers will bring new "life experience, political world views, and social world views" to the series.

The Sex and the City continuation was first rumored back in December and while And Just Like That was confirmed in January, it was also confirmed that one of the original stars, Samantha Jones actress Kim Cattrall, will not be returning. Catrall has previously been candid about not wanting to return to the role, but fans of Sex and the City shouldn't be concerned that And Just Like That will attempt to replace Catrall or the character. Parker, who told Vanity Fair she's "just excited to be handed the script" for the new series, previously told TMZ that the city itself will serve as the fourth main character in the series.

"We're not looking to create a fourth character," Parker said. "We have New York City as the fourth character. There will be lots of interesting, new characters we are super excited about."
