A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a British mystery thriller available on Netflix. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is based on Holly Jackson’s novel of the same name. In addition to Emma Myers, the series stars Zain Iqbal, Asha Banks, Raiko Gohara, and many others. Currently, there’s only one season of the show available, though Netflix has already renewed it for a second season. In case the title didn’t make it completely obvious, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder plays with strong mystery elements, diving right into the world of amateur sleuths.

Moody, Suspenseful, and Cynical

Pip Fitz-Amobi is brilliant, obsessive, and not at all falling for the tale the police have spun. A local schoolgirl has gone missing, and while everyone is content to blame her now-deceased boyfriend, Pip was determined there was more to the story. Thus begins an investigation into the truth, which digs up far more than Pip ever expected.

While Pip’s investigation may have started as a school project, her obsession with the mystery hits Wednesday levels, to say the least. Pip is an amateur sleuth through and through, and following the threads of her investigation can (and will) bring her into serious danger. Sure, she may not end up facing down a hyde, but one could argue that what she may face is just as dangerous.

Key Similarities

While A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder doesn’t dive into the same gothic atmosphere as Wednesday, the series is still full of moody and suspenseful storytelling moments, leaning heavily into the world of psychological intrigue. In other words, Wednesday is supernatural horror, while A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is more of a true crime, with realistically modern threats.

More importantly, both series provide a strong protagonist with a lot of surprising similarities. They’re the odd ones out, who don’t meet the status quo (and are arguably fine with it). They’re smart, clever, determined, and unafraid to push boundaries for the sake of solving a mystery. Viewers who enjoyed Wednesday’s investigations will surely love to see what rabbit holes Pip finds, and vice versa.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is available to stream on Netflix.
