As the old saying goes, "never say never again in the WWE".

It was announced tonight that former Diva and Women's Champion Mickie James would be returning to the WWE after nearly a decade. Not only will she return to WWE under the NXT banner, but she'll be challenging NXT Women's Champion Asuka for her championship at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.


James has been with TNA for several years now, eventually becoming their Knockouts Champion, but she left the company in 2013, then returned briefly last year. Her return isn't just a shock, but it really seems those reports that WWE had been reaching out past talent is quite the reality.

Across TNA and WWE, James is a 9-time champion, which is a national record. Should she defeat Asuka at TakeOver and become a 10-time Women's Champion, it will put James in a class truly of her own.
