The world of the DC Television universe is getting a Super upgrade this season, as Superman comes to Supergirl in earnest after a few blurry appearances and text messages. Tyler Hoechlin will play the character, Supergirl's cousin who when she saw him last on Krypton was younger, but now appears (slightly) older thanks to some science-fiction fun. He recognizes, of course, that the character has had several on-screen appearances, from television to film, but he has confidence that he has something new to bring.

"It's definitely incredibly humbling and flattering to even be given the chance to do it. And I think, I'm just going to do as much as I can to see how to bring the true spirit of the character to the show," Hoechlin told Moviefone in an interview while doing press on an unrelated film project. While he can't talk much about his, and the show's take on the character, he did say he's approaching from a fresh perspective. "I'm excited to just kind of look at it from doing it with a clean slate and not trying to replicate or duplicate anything that's been done, but just being honest to the story and how they're writing him."

As for the unique aspects of Superman that he's excited to tackle, he specifically said he's "absolutely" excited to play Clark Kent. "I think it's a part that you can't really... it's not complete without [Clark]. So I'm definitely excited to see both sides of him."

Hoechlin will debut in Supergirl season two's first two episodes as the Man of Steel.
