If you don't know Victoria Alonso, you probably know her work. The Marvel Studios executive has co-produced all of the company's films since Iron Man (2008) alongside Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito. She will continue to oversee future installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But, in a recent interview, Victoria took time to update fans on where Captain Marvel stands right now.

Speaking with The Mary Sue, Victoria was asked how far along Marvel Studios was with Captain Marvel now that Brie Larson has officially joined the project.

"We have an incredible performer in Brie Larson and a devoted woman to hold this banner which is a heavy one, I have to say," she said. "We're in early conversations. We have writers and we are trying to get a script done. We don't have a director yet, but it's coming. It's all coming."

Not long ago, reports surfaced that the studio had already narrowed down its list of potential directors. The line-up includes acclaimed filmmakers like Niki Caro, Lesli Lanka Glatter, and Lorene Scafaria. While other directors may sit on the list, it seems that Marvel Studios is taking a page from DC Entertainment and looking to hire a female director to helm Captain Marvel.

Unsurprisingly, fans are excited to learn that Carol Danvers will be handled by vetted directors - and them being female is a definite bonus. Over the past few years, Hollywood has been criticized for its lack of female creators, and Victoria has spoken about the imbalance several times in the past.

In her most recent interview, Victoria talked about how she approached being a female producer in a male-dominated field.

She stressed that she wasn't one to walk into a room and think to herself, "Oh, here comes the women." Victoria went on to say, "I don't ever think that my opinions are not heard because it's the opinion of a woman. I've never had that chip on my shoulder. I walk in the room and I'm just glad to be one of the smart people to have a part and have a seat at the table."

"There's times where perhaps it's been difficult and I wish there was a little more balance, that [things] were like 50/50 because I think that's a healthy balance. I don't want a company of all women, by the way. I just think that the balance that we create with each other is a beautiful balance and that's what I urge everyone. Balance is healthy. To have different opinions is healthy. To have people from both sides is healthy. To have people with diverse backgrounds is healthy and it's good and it's what the world is."

In the past, Victoria has echoed these thoughts. She told Variety year ago that Marvel Studios would already have a female-led movie if it were up to her. The comments came after DC Entertainment announced their solo Wonder Woman film, and Victoria wished the studio well on the endeavor.

Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
