Wonder Woman is making quite the splash at the box office, with the first headlining film for the Amazon princess performing better in its opening weekend than Marvel Studios' debut Iron Man movie.
Wonder Woman will cross $100 million at the domestic box office by the end of its first three days, perhaps even reaching $101 million. By comparison, Marvel's Iron Man propelled itself to $98 million in its opening weekend in 2008.
It should be noted that this isn't an easy one-to-one-comparison. It has been nearly a decade since Iron Man opened and these numbers don't take inflation into account. Also, Iron Man was Robert Downey Jr.'s very first time playing the character of Tony Stark, whereas Gal Gadot was introduced in her role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Iron Man was also the debut movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Wonder Woman is the fourth DC Extended Universe movie, following Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad.
Iron Man was the smallest opening weekend of the three Iron Man movie. Iron Man 3 had the largest, with $174 million. Time will tell how much Wonder Woman's box office power grows with time.
It should also be noted that neither film tops the list of the biggest opening weekends for a superhero origin story movie. That title belongs to Deadpool at $132.4 million.
Wonder Woman currently has an 88.15 ComicBook.com Composite Score. It also has a 4.41 out of 5 ComicBook.com user rating, making it the fourth-highest rated comic book movie ever among ComicBook.com readers.
