On the heels of news yesterday that Warner Brothers had passed on the property, Media Rights Capital–who helped fund Seth McFarlane’s debut feature Ted, a sleeper hit that perked up this season’s deadly slow box office–is apparently in “serious talks” to take over the film-and-TV adaptation of Stephen King’s epic series The Dark Tower, according to Deadline.
“The Dark Tower, to me, and I’m not unbiased because I’m the writer on this thing, but to me it looks like gold on the ground waiting to be picked up,” Deadline quotes King as saying about the ambitious adaptation, which director and producer Ron Howard envisions as taking place across three films and two TV miniseries.
Deadline speculates that if it were to happen, it will likely have to come together quickly–and points out that Universal, the studio that developed the film with Howard and then eventually passed on it before it made its way to Warner Brothers, has a deal in place with MRC that may see the film distributed there.
