Clark Gregg is going from Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. to directing Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season.
Gregg, who plays Director Phil Coulson on the ABC series, was asked by a fan on Twitter yesterday if there was a chance that he'd ever get to direct an episode of the series. Turns out that not only is there a chance, but it's happening this very week.
I'm directing my first one starting this week. #DaisyDatesanAlien— Clark Gregg (@clarkgregg) September 12, 2017
"I'm directing my first one starting this week. #DaisyDatesanAlien" Gregg wrote.
While we can only guess that "#DaisyDatesanAlien" is a hint at the plot of the episode, what we know for certain is that this is not the first time Gregg has mentioned directing an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Back in May Gregg revealed during an impromptu and unofficial Ask Me Anything thread in the Marvel Studios Subreddit that directing an episode for the fifth season was on his radar.
“I may direct an episode in season five. If I don't pass out from exhaustion just thinking about it,” Gregg wrote in the thread.
While this episode is Gregg's first time directing for S.H.I.E.L.D. he does have experience in the director's chair. Gregg has previously directed feature-length films including Choke and Trust Me, which he directed, wrote, and starred in.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return Friday nights this winter following the conclusion of Marvel's The Inhumans eight-episode run on ABC.
