Comic book canon is pretty hard to keep track of sometimes, but it looks like Full Frontal With Samantha Bee is handling their recent blunder in spades.

The hit TBS late night show recently did a segment on Eric Schneiderman, the New York Attorney General, in which he used Spider-Man's famous catchphrase "with great power comes great responsibility". This prompted Bee to nickname him "Schneider-Man", and use an array of comic references to describe his political crusade.

The only problem? Full Frontal proceeded to use a mixture of DC Comics and Marvel Comics references in their analogy. As some fans argued, the show should not have bounced back and forth between the two comic companies, who are considered to be competitors.

After receiving backlash from fans, Full Frontal issued a written apology on their Twitter account - which was chock full of more amusing references. As the show explained, this situation made them want to climb into their "invisible bat mobile", and felt as bad as when "Captain Planet started a fight with Iron Man."

In terms of DC references, the original segment name-dropped the Justice League, Man of Steel, and Lex Luthor, and referenced Superman's iconic phonebooth gag. And on the Marvel side, the piece compared Donald Trump to a "Toilet Hulk", and name-dropped the recently-released Thor: Ragnarok.

Thankfully, even the most picky of comic fans seem to be accepting of Full Frontal's "press release". After all, it's hard to turn down an apology that compares Cathy to Wonder Woman.
